PostHeaderIcon Good bye Proxmox, Hello MailCleaner?

Well, I'm finally fed up with using the "Free single user" trimmed down version of Proxmox Email Gateway. I did some looking around and came across MailCleaner.

It looks promising thus far (still doing the install). Its Debian based, users RAZR, SpamAssassin ClamAV and other goodies. It's an opensource project, and seems to be exactly what I'm lookin for. FREE.

A few items of interest in regards to MailCleaner (That can be found HERE in their installation doc.)

setup keyboard layout: By default, the Mailcleaner automatic installation CD configures your server with a Swiss French (fr_CH-latin1) keyboard.

So we have to change the default keyboard lay out for us Americans.

cp /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.kmap.gz /etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz

From the command line should do the trick for you.

Next run the MailCleaner installation

/root/mailcleaner_install.sh

And last steps are configure your IP address and hostname

/root/bin/ip_configurator

PostHeaderIcon Windows IIS and PHP

I've been working on perfomance tuning my web server and came across a few items for workin with Windows IIS (6 and 7) and PHP.

One is the Windows Cache Extension for PHP. This seems to have accerlerated page loads for my server by leaps and bounds!

http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/678/use-the-windows-cache-extension-for-php/

Contains walk-thrus and a download page for WinCache.dll

You must be using FastCGI to utilize WinCache.

PostHeaderIcon Server down time

I took down my network today to hook up and test my PowerVault 220s. The correct cable to hook everything up finally came, so I brought down ESX to connect it up and make sure everythin was running fine.

This also gave me a chance to configure iLO on the ESX box and look at beefing up some of it's hardware =)

I'll be bringing the host down again sometime in the near future (or atleast after I get 9 more drive caddies and rails for the PowerVault...). This will be to pull everything off both my OpenFiler boxes and add it to the local ESX host. I've had my fun with iSCSI, but now with this disk array and only 1 ESX host I decided to go back to local storage.

Back when I had both PowerEdge 2550's running ESX, I was more than happy to utilize OpenFiler and it's iSCSI goodness... Those days are long gone with the DL740.

Don't get me wrong, my primary fileserver (and my new monster fileserver) will still run OpenFiler ;)

PostHeaderIcon Arcade Game List

I've tossed together a list of Games and ROMs that I currently have on the arcade. Some systems are not configured yet such as the Coleco Vision, IntelliVision C64 and so on.

I'll try to keep the list as organic as possible, updating it as time goes.

You can find the game list in the forums, and there is a direct link to the list here.

I'd like to eventually add reviews of the PC games, and release my config for each game via GameEX.

PostHeaderIcon New hardware

I've added a few items this past week to the rack components.

2 New 1.5TB Sammy Spinpoint drives for the main File Server. I don't think I have enough space yet ;) These bump the main NAS volume (Built on OpenFiler) to 4x1.5TB (6TB)

I think I'll hold off adding anymore 1.5TB drives until I get a decent 3Ware 16port SATA II RAID Controller, then I can start building my new File Server ;)

I want to go with a 4U Rack Mount 16 Bay (SATAII) enclosure with a decent 3Ware card and of course OpenFiler as the OS.

I also added a 1GB GBIC to my Cisco PWR XL 3500 Switch. This is used an an uplink port, forking off the main 1GB switch.

PostHeaderIcon New Storage underway

It's been a long time coming!

New storage is on the way.

First, I've ordered 2 more 1.5TB drives and a 4 port SATA2 card for my primary fileserver. This should beef up it's space alittle more =)

Next I've begun building my Powervault 220s, 5 of the 14 caddies have been obtained and filled, 9 more caddies to go =/ I've also placed an order for a external SCSI 3 cable and drive rails for the enclosure.

All ESX VM's will sit on this new array once it's built, this will allow me to retire the ESX iSCSI server and attatch this array directly to the ESX host.
